Micro-needling
What are Micro-needling?
As we age, the collagen and elastin network – the skin structure building blocks – gets damaged and degrade causing our skin to become, wrinkled, loose, less elastic with loss volume.
Micro-needling helps in removing the dark spots and skin pigmentation, surface scarring, acne scars, fine wrinkles, crow’s feet, dark circles and bags under the eyes and improve the texture and tightness of the skin giving your face a glowing and healthy looking skin.
Micro-needling tightens, lifts and rejuvenate the skin leading to improvement in its texture and
appearance.
How does Micro-needling work?
Micro-needling (Using the state of the art Dermapen3™ System developed in Germany) is an automated system using very fine needles to create hundreds of thousands of tiny, invisible vertical skin puncture wounds in the top layer of the skin.
These “micro-injuries” stimulate and harness the body’s innate natural ability to repair itself. The healing response to these micro-injuries will cause your skin to rejuvenate, tighten and lift by increasing your body’s natural production of the normal woven collagen and elastin.
Micro-needling is a non-ablative skin treatment i.e. there is no removal of a skin layer to facilitate the development of a new skin layer formation (unlike laser treatments). It is safe for all types and tones of skin.
By creating millions of micro-channels, it also helps carry up to 80% more of topical ingredients of creams and serums into the deeper skin layers. Thus the serums and creams applied during and after the completion of the treatment will be much more effective and provide maximum benefit.
During the Dermapen3™ Procedure:
The pain or discomfort level experienced during the procedure is minimal, hence the use of any topical anaesthetics is not required as the needles only prick the superficial layers of the skin.
Micro-needling, in a nutshell, is a collagen induction therapy that:
• Stimulates the production of collagen and elastin
• Resulting in tighter and plumper skin
• Improves skin tone and texture
The end result is a natural, scarless skin with interwoven collagen, lattice elastin generation and thicker epidermis
Dermapen3™ single-use cartridges eliminate the risk of cross-contamination, whilst the adjustable needle depth allows for a treatment that is fully tailored to individual needs. Dermapen3™ is suitable and safe to use in delicate and hard to reach areas such as around the eyes, eyelids, earlobes, neck, lips and on the nose.
Micro-needling can treat any of the following:
• Fine lines, wrinkles, and vertical lip lines
• Pigmentation from sun damage, ageing or acne
• Uneven skin discolouration and uneven facial skin tone
• Melasma
• It helps in tightening the skin of the face, neck, décolletage and hands and gives a smooth texture
• Acne scars
• Scars from surgery, burns and trauma (Less delineated by smoothing the appearance and merging it with surrounding skin)
• Stretch marks
• Enlarged/dilated skin pores
• Alopecia (hair loss)
• Vitiligo
Benefits of micro-needling:
• It harnesses the natural healing ability of your body
• It has a very low recovery time
• It is chemical-free
• It can be used on any body part
• It does not have side effects
• It is safe for all skin types and tones
How many micro-needling sessions does it take to see tightening skin?
The number of treatments required varies based on the results you want to achieve, the type and tone of your skin and which part of the body is to be treated.
Just a few sessions of micro-needling will noticeably reduce fine lines, crow’s feet, and deep wrinkles on the forehead.
For most wrinkles or stretch marks on the body, depending on the severity, you may need 3-4 (sometimes 6) micro-needling treatments some 4 to 6 weeks apart to achieve optimal skin-tightening results.
To maintain the benefits achieved it is recommended to undergo an additional 6 monthly treatments.
Though micro-needling is similar to laser resurfacing but is a mechanical version of it, it eliminates the side effects, the costs and the downtime associated laser therapy.
Are there side effects to micro-needling?
The risk involved in micro-needling treatments is very minimal.
After a treatment, dry skin or red discolouration may occur that can be easily managed with appropriate skin care products and typically subside within a few days.
Pre & post micro-needling skin care:
Special Cosmeceuticals are specifically designed to enhance the outcomes of micro-needling procedures.
Cosmeceuticals are recommended not only for pre- and post-treatment but also for home use as part of a daily skincare regimen, suitable for all skin types and colours.
Micro-needling for stretch marks:
Stretch marks are caused by pregnancy, childhood growth spurts, losing weight and genetic predisposition. Micro-needling for stretch marks with Dermapen3™ has shown some amazing results though results can vary from patient to patient.
Micro-needling for the hands:
Micro-needling is a skin treatment process which can be applied on any part of the body to reverse the ageing process including the back of the hands. The skin of the hands is prone to wrinkles as we age. The skin becomes loose and starts sagging. Micro-needling provides the solution to this problem.
Micro-needling of dark spots and skin pigmentation:
Hyperpigmentation occurs due to overproduction of melanin throughout the layers of skin. This is usually be caused by sun damage, ageing, hormonal changes, pregnancy, or medication. As the skin stops producing new cells as we age, these dark spots accumulate over time instead of naturally fading away and give the skin that unwanted dull appearance that becomes more pronounced with time.
Micro-needling is the most effective of all the procedures used to treat hyperpigmentation (dark spots) which makes these dark spots to fade and even disappear with time by collagen induction. It is chemical-free with no side effects using the natural body healing process. It also lasts for a long time.
